The Mozambican President , Filipe Nyusi, announced yesterday, the availability of a line of funding of 75 million meticais to support producers affected by Cyclone Freddy in the country.
The amount, to be disbursed by the National Investment Bank, BNI, will serve to leverage the production chain in the provinces of Zambezia, Tete, Manica, Sofala, Nampula and Niassa, ravaged by bad weather.
Filipe Nyusi was speaking on Wednesday in Manje, seat of Chiúta district in Tete province, at the central launch ceremony for the Agricultural Commercialisation Campaign 2023, an event in which all the country’s provinces were represented.
The Mozambican President assured that the financing will be free of interests, with a grace period of six months and a maturity period of two years, with a minimum value of 500 thousand meticais and maximum of three million meticais.
Regarding the 2023 agricultural marketing campaign, launched this Wednesday, on a national scale, President Filipe Nyusi said that the country expects to market over 17 million tonnes of various agricultural products.
The government will support with agricultural mechanisation and inputs and technological capacity building with technical assistance from extensionists.
Also on Wednesday, the Head of State will address the Fifth National Commercialisation Forum, which will focus on proposed solutions to leverage the agricultural marketing chain in the country.
