he province of Nampula, in the north of the country, plans to produce and market more than 82,000 tonnes of cashew nuts this year, a volume that corresponds to a 5% increase when compared to the quantity marketed in the previous season.
According to the provincial delegate of the Mozambique Almond Institute in Nampula, Júlio Langa, in order to achieve these goals, the chemical treatment campaign is underway and around 4.5 million cashew trees have already been sprayed.
“At the moment, the cashew trees are in a satisfactory state of flowering, so we expect good levels of production,” explained Júlio Langa, quoted by Rádio Moçambique.
Nampula is the largest province in terms of nut production, contributing around 40% of the country’s estimated annual production of 157,000 tonnes. It has a cashew park of around 15 million trees.
