With the intention of increasing the production and productivity, the Government intends to produce around 2.623, 7 tons of certified seed for the current agriculture campaign. The figures were made public by the Vice-Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Olegário Banze.
During the annual technical meeting of the National Directorate of Agricultural Health and Biosecurity, Banze announced that the country will import about 1,140,146.16 tons of seeds, meaning a 31 percent increase in comparison to the previous season when the country acquired 869,705.34 tons out of doors.
Banze said that these and other actions aimed to materialise the Government’s commitment to end hunger and achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture, highlighting the Sustenta Project.
At the meeting held in the Mozambican capital with the slogan, “Sanity for Agricultural Production and Defence of Public Health,” the participants, that is representatives of the government, cooperation partners, production groups and the private sector discussed issues related to phytosanitary challenges and agricultural supervision.
The annual technical meeting of the National Directorate of Agricultural Health and Biosafety aimed to reflect on the paths the country should follow to develop and accelerate the preparation of the National Strategy for Agricultural Development.
