The Government foresees the commercialization of 150 thousand tons of cashew nuts in the 2022/2023 commercialization campaign that started this Wednesday, November 23, at national scale, and whose launch took place in Nampula province.
The expected volume corresponds to a growth of 3% in relation to the quantity commercialized in the 2021/2022 campaign, which was around 146 thousand tons of cashew nuts.
According to the Vice-Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Olegario Banze, the current commercialization campaign may yield 87 million dollars of gross income to the cashew producers.
Olegário Banze advanced that the objectives outlined for the campaign will only be achieved with the involvement and commitment of all actors in the cashew value chain.
“The producers are invited to join the promotion programs by increasing the plantations and taking care of them, avoiding uncontrolled burning, cleaning and pruning the cashew trees. They should also organize themselves into associations or cooperatives to improve bargaining capacity and facilitate the provision of technical assistance,” the leader appealed.
The vice-minister also urged traders to pay fair prices to producers, with this remuneration being differentiated by quality, as this is the only way to promote good practices.
“The industrialists must participate in the development activities with the family producers to allow a rapid increase in the new ordered plantations. They should increase their processing capacity, adding more value, and also take an interest in processing the false fruit, which has great economic potential,” he concluded.
