The Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, and Fisheries announced that it is developing an integrated digital ecosystem aimed at improving service for producers, investors, and other participants in the agricultural, livestock, and fisheries value chain. The initiative foresees the creation of a single portal that aggregates all systems and services in the sector, focusing on interoperability and traceability.
The information was provided by Jaime Roberto Chissico, National Director of Cooperation and Investments at the Ministry, during his intervention at the BFSI Mozambique forum, held in Maputo.
According to Chissico, digitalization is seen as an essential tool to address the structural challenges of the sector, particularly regarding production, input certification, and commercial integration.
“We want a system where any producer, investor, or participant has access, in a single place, to the information and services needed to operate in the sector,” Chissico stated. The system will include digital registration of producers and production plots, certification of national production, and quality control of seeds and agricultural inputs.
The official also highlighted the importance of ensuring export conditions, with mechanisms that guarantee traceability from input to final consumer, as well as biosafety and quality certifications required by international markets.
With this initiative, the Ministry aims to combat phenomena such as circulation of counterfeit seeds, strengthen transparency in the production chain, and boost sector productivity through more efficient use of technology. Digital mapping and registration of land is also underway as part of efforts to organize and restructure the agrarian sector.
The director reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to work with the private sector, highlighting the importance of horizontal and vertical alliances in family farming, and emphasized that digitalization will be crucial to guarantee not only access to financing but also formalization and inclusion of small producers.
The BFSI Mozambique forum is taking place in Maputo, bringing together government representatives, the private sector, regulators, financial institutions, insurers, fintechs, and experts, with the goal of discussing challenges and opportunities in digital transformation and modernization of public services.
