The Government of Maputo province has exceeded the global production forecast for 2020. The areas of manufacturing, agriculture, transport, storage and communications are those that contributed most to an overall production estimated at 272,604.13 million meticais during the period under review.

The goal achieved last year corresponds to an achievement of 113% of what was initially planned, representing at the same time a 5% growth, if compared to the previous year’s production in all sectors of activity.

The data were presented recently by the governor of Maputo province, Júlio Parruque, during the first ordinary session of the Provincial Executive Council, having pointed out that if it wasn’t for the covid-19 pandemic, the province would have been able to accomplish more than it did.

According to him, the industrial production that contributes with 45.2%, reached 122.810,95 million meticais, out of a plan of 109.949,40 million, which corresponds to an accomplishment of 111,7%.

Despite this production, the Maputo Provincial Executive Council believes that it could have produced a little more, however, because of the current situation of the covid-19 pandemic some actions were conditioned.

In this perspective, the governor said that it is intended to continue with the consolidation of the implementation of the body, structure new sources of revenue, ensure compliance with measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to adapt all sectors to the new-normal.

According to the governor, the body will continue to work with various actors in society to eliminate Cattle theft and land conflicts at the level
of Maputo province.

However, he highlighted that despite the constraints faced by the producers, especially the cattle theft and the high costs of herds management, it was possible to produce 94,571.9 tons of various meats, with emphasis on beef, goat and sheep.

To support the breeders, the government delivered 290 cattle of improved breeds, through fomentation programs, besides vaccinating 1,022,244 animals against several diseases.
