The non-governmental organization Mangwana handed out checks worth 63 million meticais (USD 1 million) on Wednesday, July 23, in Manica Province to 17 commercial farming enterprises and 207 small-scale producers, as part of its grant fund, according to the Mozambican Information Agency.
According to the agency, the grants—ranging from 1.8 million to 10.2 million meticais (USD 28,240 to USD 160,125)—aim to boost commercial agricultural production along the Beira Corridor. Most of the beneficiaries focus on cash crops for sale.
Augusto Jaime, director of the Mangwana program, stated that the project is built on three pillars: support for small producers, promotion of the private sector, and improvement of the business environment. The assistance includes irrigation equipment, with the goal of strengthening resilience to climate change.
For her part, the Governor of Manica Province, Francisca Tomás, highlighted that the grants will enhance production and boost household income across seven districts. She urged the farmers to make the most of the support by adopting sustainable agricultural practices.
Launched in 2024, the Mangwana program is expected to enter a second phase in the coming months, expanding benefits to more producers and small enterprises in the sector.
