The Institute of Cotton and Oilseeds of Mozambique in Manica province plans to process five hundred tons of seed cotton for national and international markets in the current campaign.
The information was made public by the Institute’s provincial delegate, Edson Tanga, during a visit he and Edson Macuácua, the Secretary of State for the province, paid to the cotton ginning factory in Guro district.
Of the cotton to be processed in this campaign, 35% is estimated to have been produced in Manica and the remainder in Tete province.
Edson Tanga noted that Mozambican cotton enjoyed a vast market, which was what had motivated farmers to take up the culture.
For his part, Secretary of State Macuácua highlighted the need for the province to continue investing in the production of cotton and oilseeds in order to boost its economy.
