Tobacco producers in the district of Malema, in the province of Nampula, are worried about the lack of market for their production. The seizure occurs in a context in which about 1,500 tons of tobacco produced in the last campaign run the risk of deteriorating in the warehouses.
The director of the district service of economic activities in Malema, António Ibo, revealed that the situation is worrying the local Executive, since for the current campaign, the district foresees to produce more than three thousand tons of tobacco.
“We would like to have help in the disposal of the tobacco that is in the warehouses, thus motivating the fostering company as well as the producers themselves to continue to engage in the production of this cash crop,” he said.
António Ibo also appealed to the companies involved in tobacco promotion in the district to do whatever is within their reach to identify internal or external markets to place their production.
In Nampula province, this cash crop is traditionally produced in the districts of Malema, Ribáuè and Lalaua, whose commercialization has an impact on the generation of income of the rural communities, since thousands of producers of the family sector dedicate themselves to the cultivation of this crop annually.
