President Daniel Chapo noted that concrete progress has been made in strengthening relations with Uganda, indicating that he intends to draw on that country’s experience in livestock farming, which will help boost milk and meat production and improve the performance of the agriculture, livestock, and agro-processing sectors.
Speaking at the conclusion of a meeting with his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, Chapo stated that there has been concrete progress in relations between the two countries, noting that a team from Uganda has already been in Mozambique conducting a survey of areas where large-scale projects can be implemented, particularly those related to cattle farming.
“Uganda is productive in agriculture, but it is also a country that is quite advanced in terms of agro-processing. So, we want to work together in this sector,” he said, adding that, by the end of the month, a team composed of experts from the Ministries of Veterans Affairs and of Agriculture, Environment, and Fisheries will be in Uganda to work on bringing this project to fruition.
Quoted by Lusa, Daniel Chapo emphasized that the idea is to implement initiatives related to agriculture and livestock farming in the district of Montepuez, in the province of Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country. “Another aspect we also consider important is ensuring food security. Uganda has already achieved this security and is exporting many agricultural products to the world.”
In one of his remarks, the minister said he wanted to strengthen cooperation between Mozambique and Uganda in the fight against terrorism, which has been affecting Cabo Delgado province since 2017, highlighting Uganda’s experience in this area.
Daniel Chapo also recalled the historical ties between the two countries, noting that the Ugandan president is very familiar with Cabo Delgado, particularly the district of Montepuez, where he received military training in the past.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, in power since 1986, was sworn in on the 12th for a seventh five-year term after winning the January 15 elections, which the opposition called fraudulent.
Museveni won 71.65% of the vote amid allegations of fraud by his main rival, 44-year-old musician and opposition figure Bobi Wine, who came in second with 24.72% of the vote.
