Government Approves Maintenance of Minimum Seed Cotton Prices

The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday, May 16, the maintenance of minimum prices of seed cotton, the ginning fee and the subsidy to the minimum producer purchase price, to be in force in the 2022-2023 agrarian marketing campaign, which will start in the next few days throughout the national territory.

The approved decree sets at 33 meticais per kilo the first quality seed cotton, 23 meticais per kilo for second quality seed cotton and eight meticais per kilo of seed cotton ginning.

According to the instrument, the minimum price subsidy is fixed at 7 meticais per kilogram of first quality seed cotton, and 4,80 meticais per kilogram of second quality seed cotton.

The maintenance of prices had been agreed, last week, between the Government and the stakeholders of the cotton sector.

This Tuesday, the Council of Ministers also approved the decree approving the regulation that establishes the legal regime of obligatory social security for State employees. The instrument establishes the procedures for the application of Law No. 8/2021, of 30 December, which approves the Legal Regime of Mandatory Social Security for Employees and Agents and applies to employees who contribute or have contributed to the System of Mandatory Social Security for State Employees.
