The Mozambican government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADER), revealed on Thursday (11), that the global production of meat in 2022 registered a considerable growth of 9%, that is, 174 thousand tons were produced against 159.9 thousand counted in 2021.
According to the national director of Livestock Development, Américo da Conceição, of the universe of known meats, beef was produced on a large scale, rising from 17.7 thousand tonnes to 20 thousand tonnes more last year.
“Cattle figures for 2022 indicate that the country has a herd of over two million head,” he said.
The official was speaking during the third meeting of the livestock sector, taking place in Gaza province since Wednesday (10) and ending tomorrow, Friday, May 12.
The meeting aims to assess the livestock sub-sector for the year 2022 until the first quarter of 2023, evaluate measures to control foot-and-mouth disease, the criteria for moving animals and marking cattle, certification of herds free of tuberculosis and brucellosis, as well as to put into perspective the actions for 2024.
This three-day meeting (10, 11 and 12) will be attended by members of the Executive Board and technicians from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, heads of provincial livestock services, cooperation partners, among others.
