The preliminary assessment of the current agrarian campaign 2020/2021 indicates good prospects in the sense that the country will increase production, reaching 3.1 million tons of cereals against 2.8 million recorded in the campaign 2019/2020.
This increase in agricultural production, in this campaign, results from the commitment of producers, the increase of investments in the agriculture sector, with emphasis on the SUSTENTA program, as well as the good rainy season that is being registered.
The data were presented yesterday in Maputo, by the Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, during the ceremony of information of the Government, in the III ordinary session of the Republic Assembly.
According to the Prime Minister, despite the adversities that the country is facing, the Government maintained its commitment with the materialization of the actions foreseen in the priorities of the Five-Year Government Program, in order to ensure the resumption of economic growth.
In the field of energy, the Government plans to implement structuring projects that will involve more combined investment from the public and private sectors, generating more job opportunities and promoting the country’s socio-economic development.
According to Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, the developments around the Covid-19 vaccine, together with the gradual lifting of the restrictions imposed under this pandemic, are determining factors for the restoration of the mobility of people and goods.
The combination of these factors will favor the resumption of international trade and, therefore, the growth of the world economy, the continent and the country, still starting this year.
“In the specific case of our country, for the recovery of the economy, the maintenance of peace is necessary, the rigorous implementation of all measures to prevent and combat Covid-19 and the focus on the implementation of the priority actions of the Five-Year Government Program and the Economic and Social Plan for 2021,” he said.
He added that this is how in the economic field the Government continues to focus actions on promoting the diversification and competitiveness of the economy, with a view to generating more jobs, especially for young people.
To this end, according to the Prime Minister, the Government will continue to focus on areas such as agriculture in all its value chain to boost industrialization and diversify the economy, energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, and human capital development.
