This Tuesday, 3 September, the private sector received an urgent call to invest in the agribusiness sector, with the aim of strengthening food security and diversifying the national economy.
According to a Radio Moçambique (RM) publication, the call was made by the president of the Confederation of Mozambican Economic Associations (CTA), Agostinho Vuma, during the prize-giving ceremony for the Nutrideal-2023 competition.
On the occasion, Vuma pointed out that the country faces an annual loss of 10 per cent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) due to malnutrition, a reality which, according to him, calls for greater participation by companies in the fight against malnutrition and the promotion of sustainable solutions in the agricultural sector.
As well as calling on the private sector to invest more in agriculture, Vuma also honoured the best initiatives in the field of nutrition and agricultural development. The Quinta da Família company came first in the competition, with a prize of 7,000 dollars (442,400 meticals).
With this award, the president of the CTA emphasised the importance of taking advantage of existing business opportunities and boosting Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) in the agricultural sector, which are fundamental for diversifying the national economy.
