China Launches Agricultural Project to Reduce Poverty in Mozambique

The Africa Bridge Project, a sustainable development cooperation initiative between China and African countries, was launched in the Kamavota district of Maputo. The initiative aims to support Mozambique in reducing agricultural poverty through educational assistance, infrastructure improvement, and strengthened agricultural cooperation.

Promoted by the Africa Bridge Development Program—an international organization established with the support of the Shandong Provincial Foreign Affairs Office—and the Shandong Province Business Association in Mozambique, the project will involve Chinese agricultural specialists working directly with Mozambican partners. The goal is to enhance farmers’ technical skills and ensure greater food security.

During the launch ceremony, held on Saturday (11th), school supplies, agricultural tools, and construction materials were distributed. Financial support was also provided for school renovations and the improvement of local infrastructure, demonstrating the program’s commitment to community development.

Wu Jinjia, Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Mozambique, stated that “the project is a concrete result of China’s implementation of the ten Partnership Actions announced at the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).” According to the diplomat, this initiative brings tangible benefits to the Mozambican population.

The Chinese representative added that her government places great importance on agricultural cooperation with Mozambique, promoting links between the civil and social resources of both countries. “The objective is to support the modernization of Mozambican agriculture and contribute to its sustainable development,” Wu Jinjia emphasized.

Meanwhile, Jabula Zibia, National Director of Agriculture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, and Fisheries, stated that the Africa Bridge Project is “an important initiative to boost agricultural development and community strengthening in the country.” He highlighted that this cooperation reinforces productive capacity and increases the resilience of rural communities.

Jabula Zibia also noted that China is “a key agricultural partner of Mozambique,” emphasizing joint projects in areas such as technology transfer and food production, which have contributed to higher productivity and improved living conditions for rural populations.

Additionally, Wen Nuan, Vice Governor of Shandong Province, recalled that companies from the region have actively participated in infrastructure construction, housing donations, and agricultural land development in Mozambique. Established in 2024, the Africa Bridge Development Program has focused on sustainable projects and improving living conditions, promoting resource sharing and business innovation across several African countries.
