The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Correia, said yesterday in Rome, Italy, that about 40 million euros are ensured for humanitarian, social and productive assistance in the country. The amount was made available by the World Food Programme (WFP).
The information was provided during a press conference to take stock of the two-day working visit [1 and 2 March] that Celso Correia made to Rome, where he held talks with the Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), as well as with the representatives of two other important UN agencies, namely David Beasley, Executive Director of WFP, and Álvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
According to the Mozambican minister, the visits went well and met expectations, adding that in the course of the visits the alignment with all cooperation partners was confirmed.
“With IFAD the relationship is very good, we have developed solutions for the current crisis that Mozambique is facing and we will have resources in the coming weeks”, informed Celso Correia, adding that WFP’s openness and support remains strong, especially in the light of current needs, taking into account the importance of the country having to link humanitarian assistance to development programs.
In addition to the amounts provided by WFP, Mozambique will soon receive from Italian cooperation about 35 million euros which will be used to fund an investment project underway in Manica province: the construction of an agro-food processing centre.
