The company “Ouro Verde”, based in Cabo Delgado province, expects to place in the internal and external markets, in the next days, more than a thousand tons of organic sugar.
According to the managers of the sugar cane processing plant, the product already has buyers, mainly in the city of Maputo, besides Europe and the United States of America.
The sugar cane processing unit has recently benefited from a 92 million metical subsidy from the Mozambican Government, through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, coming from the Catalytic Innovation and Demonstration Fund.
With the amount, Ouro Verde, which operates an area of 125 hectares, 80 of which cultivated by 106 family farmers, purchased two irrigation systems for the fields, a tractor and respective agricultural implements, and increased the water supply capacity with the expansion of the local dam, as well as a new mill for grinding sugar cane.
The mill also promotes technical training of peasants, congregated in a cooperative called Coopcana, to integrate them in the commercial sugar cane production scheme,
With the new factory unit, the district of Chiúre, more specifically the administrative post of Ocua, enters the list as the second national producer of organic sugar after Chemba, in the province of Sofala.
Organic sugar is grown without the use of agrotoxins, artificial chemical components in the industrialization process.
It can be used with the same sweetening power as refined sugar, but the price is higher because of its nutritional value.
