The position was defended in Maputo, by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Celso Correia, in the High Level Meeting on Employment, in the country.
The minister invited the youth to embrace this area, to ensure the sustainability of food production in the country.
“It is felt that there are few young people adhering to agriculture and this may mean a failure of the productive system, because it is these peasants who in times of crisis are called to constitute the GDP, are called to supply the country”, he stressed.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development recognized, however, that the sector still lacks incentives to generate the interest of young people, judging by the low incomes of farmers involved in the production process.
Celso Correia also encouraged the banking sector and other potential financiers to invest heavily in agriculture.
The High Level Meeting on employment in the country, organized by the Secretary of State for Youth and Employment, also served for the official launch of the PAPE- Plano de Acção da Política de Emprego 2021-2024.
